Structure of sentences with adverb
- An adverb usually comes after the verb/adjective/adverb it modifies.
- An adverb can come before the verb as well
por ejemplo :
Juan trabaja lenta y cuidadosamente. ⇢⇢ Juan - Subject
Juan works slowly and carefully. trabaja - Verbs
Lenta y cuidadosamente - adverb
El chico le habló clara y cortésmente. ⇢⇢ El chico - subject
The boy spoke to him clearly and courteously Habló (spoke) - verb
Clara y cortésmente - adverb
[ Note : When two adverbs modify the same verb, only the second one uses the -mente ending. Note that the first adverb is the same as the feminine singular form of the adjective ]
- Most Spanish adverbs are formed by adding -mente to the feminine singular form of the adjective. This ending corresponds to -ly in English.
